What's Up-time?

As you may already now, being a customer of the ITD gives you realtime access to view what's going on with your network.

The simple layout of the monitoring page in the Client Area may be familiar to you (see below). But now you can also see how your network is performing, and critically for how long. A new graph has been added to each monitored device showing it's Uptime.

<p style="text-align: center;"Read More...

I decided to create this post after spending a while figuring out what Microsoft had done with RDP (or Terminal Services) in Windows 7.

The feature that enables you to connect to your PC from anywhere and work from your familiar desktop has been available to anyone running installations of XP/Vista/7 Professional or above.

If you're reading this post, you may have alreRead More...

After many months of head scratching the new website has gone live!

Thank you to everyone who's been involved in testing and letting me know if there were any problems - hopefully, they're all sorted now.
CiviCRM, CiviMail and Joomla

Here's a workaround which allows you to include Joomla data to be used as custom tokens in CiviMail.

The problem I was having involved encouraging CiviCRM donors to log on before renewing their memberships - and without them having to know their usernames and/or passwords. The process of donating had to be made as simple as possible.

The solution was to use a View in MySQL in the place of a custom_data table, and then use the {contact.custom_XX} tokeRead More...

Synchronising LDAP with MySQL

I know this one's quite specific - and it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I've been looking into synchronising LDAP with MySQL and *surprisingly* there's not much on how to do it.

I found this script which was perfect, except it was designed for MailWatch (!?) and therefore threw an error when running against normal RDNs.

(see this post from 2008)

After a tiny bit of reworking, the script now retrieves usernames, email addresses, display naRead More...

Welcome to (another) Blog!

I'm hoping that The Nerd's Eye View will be an exception.

It's intended as a place to share stuff that I come across, with an emphasis on the unusual,

and to publicise solutions which, for one reason or anotRead More...
